Kelsey Vander Werff, PhD, ATC

Kelsey joined the Department of Neurological Surgery in July of 2014. She serves as a Physician Extender specializing in spine, pediatric and endovascular neurosurgery. In addition, Kelsey covers our Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Mountainside Hospital office locations. Kelsey earned her Doctorate in Exercise Physiology as well as her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine from Springfield College.

Prior to moving to New Jersey, Kelsey gained experience with New England Orthopedic Surgeons in Massachusetts from 2010-2013, specializing in open and arthroscopic techniques for the shoulder. Kelsey was the Certified Athletic Trainer for The New England Mutiny Women’s Professional Soccer Team, University of Massachusetts Football Team, as well as responsible for treating athletes at The University of Virginia. While she was in graduate school, Kelsey was an Anatomy & Physiology and Human Anatomy Instructor at the collegiate level.

While earning her Doctorate, Kelsey’s research included; surgical methods of Bankart Repair for glenohumeral instability, allograft vs. autograft ACL reconstruction, and oral contraceptive use with recovery from musculotendinous injuries. Kelsey is currently continuing her passion for research within the Neurosurgery Department.
